What is Acupuncture?


There are 14 meridians in human body, they cross like net, spread all over. "Qi" flows through these meridians to keep our healthy, if "Qi" flows slow down or has blockage somewhere, will cause sickness. There are over 365 points on the meridians. Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles, (sometimes in conjunction with electrical stimulus), in the acupoints on body's surface, in order to influence physiological functioning of the body. Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with heat produced by burning specific herbs, this is called Moxibustion. In addition, a non-invasive method of massage therapy called acupressure and Chinese Herbal Medicine using over 10,000 different types of herbs can also be effective for the patient. Chinese Herbal formulas are all natural and are proven to have very few side effects.

What does acupuncture do?

Acupuncture can clear blockages and restore a balanced flow of "Qi", which will allow the body to heal and regenerate itself.

Acupuncture can increase hormone supply of endorphins, which helps patients to endure pain.

Acupuncture makes our nerve system relatively in- sensitive to the pain, and changes physiological function of the place where the pain originates.

So, acupuncture not only relieves the pain, but also cures the pain as well.

How soon does acupuncture work?

When needle is used correctly, the effect is immediate.

What disease can acupuncture treat?

For many acute and chronic disease (pains), injuries, quit smoking and alcohol, weight loss, face lift, reaction after chemo and /or radiotherapy etc. World Health Organization cited 104 diseases.

Are they painful?

Not really.

Are there side effects?

Very little.

How many and how often should I accept acupuncture?

At least a course of 6-8 times, 1-5 times a week, maybe more or less, depends on your condition.

After treatment, can I work?

Yes, you can.

Is acupuncture covered by medical insurance?

Acupuncture is covered by most extended health plans, such as, Blue cross, SGI, great west life...Check with your insurance provider for the details of coverage.

Does acupuncture interfere with any medication?

Acupuncture does not interfere with any medication or other treatment you are currently undergoing.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is safe if by a well-trained and experienced practitioner.
